Alberta Evictions Moratorium Legislation Introduced
On Tuesday, the Government of Alberta introduced and passed first reading of Bill 23, the Commercial Tenancies Protection Act.
The bill, as currently written, will:
- Prevent commercial evictions and other remedies until at least August 31st 2020
- Prevent landlords from raising rent (including where previously contractually agreed to)
- Prevent landlords from charging late fees and penalties on missed rent
